At my Thursday lesson, on a whim we tried “liberty work”. That's where you have no leadrope or reins connecting you to the horse. The horse is at liberty to decide to work with you or not.
Beetle walked with me a few steps, then veered off to stand by the ring exit. We didn't interfere. Instead I walked around the ring by myself, saying out loud “I wish my Beetle was with me! I'm walking around the ring all alone!”
When I made it halfway around the ring, he was like “okay, fine" and came back to me!
He let me "lead" him around without a rope for the rest of the lesson. ❤️ What an amazing horse!
